Gameboy Tutorial Progress

I’ve been focusing a lot of time recently on my Re-Creating popular Games for the Gameboy tutorial series. My most recent tutorial was How to make Tetris for the Nintendo Gameboy. I have 5 games left I want to add:

  • 1942
  • Zelda
  • Pokémon
  • Mario
  • Frogger

My 1942 & Zelda demos are +90% done. I just need to touch over the code a bit and write the tutorial.

Taking on all of these GBDK-2020 projects has been a great learning experience. Each project taught me a little bit more about the library. For example, I’ve become more familiar with png2asset and come to understand Scaled Integers.

YouTube Channel

Currently, all of my tutorials are written on this website. I do have visions to also get them on YouTube. Initially, I wanted to start working on YouTube videos after all my demos & tutorials were done. However, my mind has changed. I think I should start on some YouTube videos sooner, rather than later. There is a logical reasoning for this. I realize recording some YouTube videos, like writing tutorials, will take some getting used to.

When writing this article, i only have one video uploaded. It’s a simple video showcasing my flappy bird clone.

Moving Forward

After I’ve done everything i want with the Gameboy, i might make a small Game Gear game & tutorial. Fortunately for me, GBDK-2020 can make Game Gear games (and more. Check out this documentation) . This means i don’t need to learn any new library or framework. I’ve got more thoughts that extend past GBDK, but i’ll save those for another day.

Thanks for reading.
